FNEIJ / MA - Fédération Nationale Des Ecoles d’Influences Jazz et Musiques Actuelles.
The FNEIJMA, a national federation of French music schools, was created in 1989 through the initiative of five prominent jazz schools. From 1992 the federation opened its membership to a series of new schools involved in the teaching of rock music and ‘chanson'. Today, FNEIJMA is composed of some 30 member schools around France representing over 8000 students and 600 full and part-time educators imparting a wide range of teaching practices relating to contemporary popular music. An additional 400 musical artist/teachers regularly contribute to student learning through short residencies and workshops. Covering the fields of amateur and professional training, the members of FNEIJMA are united by a quality charter that defines their commitment, the framework of their missions and the functioning of their structures. Beyond the charter, the schools of the FNEIJMA share a series of common cultural, social and economic principles which constitute the foundation of their teachings.
The principle objectives of FNEIJMA include:
Promotion and structuring of professional training for instrumentalists and singers.
Certification of training via the FNEIJMA national exam board which will mark its 10th anniversary in 2006.
Organisation of professional occupational placements for students through student ensembles and other mixed approaches.

Escuela de Musica Creativa: Madrid, Spain
The "Escuela de Música Creativa" (EMC) is a private music school with premises situated in Madrid’s lively "Malasaña" district. Founded in 1986 primarily as a Jazz school, it has since grown and developed programs covering a broader spectrum of music education; the E.M.C. offers general music education for all ages (including young children) in its basic cycle. This leads to a 3 year, intermediate cycle aimed at future professionals, with a complete range of subjects providing a solid all-round grounding centred on the modern music idiom.
The advanced cycle offers specialisation in one of two main areas:
Performance or arranging and composing, with a variety of accompanying options such as digital sound recording, Flamenco, World music or Music Pedagogy.
Other E.M.C. activities include a productions department, devoted to the organization of musical events, seminars, educational concerts and the recording and promotion of artists connected to the school, teacher training programs, an annual international Jazz seminar in collaboration with a local university and the administration of several municipally owned music schools in and around the metropolitan area of Madrid.
The 2005-6 course sees the opening of two new branches of the E.M.C.and also the celebration of 20 years as the Spanish capital's foremost modern music school.

Jazzstudio: Antwerp, Belgium
"Jazzstudio", located in Antwerp, Belgium, is a private music school founded some 28 years ago. As a private initiative, "Jazzstudio" has enjoyed the flexibility to develop training programmes which are current, dynamic, adaptable to individual interests, responsive to the rapidly changing musical landscape and highly relevant to the needs of aspiring young professionals.
"Jazzstudio’s" approach to training is twofold. Firstly, it aims to recognise the diversity of interests, expectations and level of experience each individual brings to the practice of music while taking into account any imbalances between theoretical and practical knowledge. In response to an assessment of those factors "Jazzstudio" presents each student with an individualised package of approaches to his or her theoretical and practical learning.
"Jazzstudio" considers the discipline and rigour associated with the study of jazz the ideal vehicle for the all-round development of high standard musical skills. Secondly, "Jazzstudio" recognises the value of bringing musicians together to share and exchange experiences and to network with one another. Indeed, musical knowledge and proficiency are not the only components which contribute to the success of a professional musician. Who you know can be as important as what you know. For that purpose the school acts as a melting pot where the one hundred students who study at the school each year get to see each other on a daily basis. These contacts permit graduates to enter their professions with a ready-made network and make valuable contributions to the development of new and interesting music.
The teaching philosophy at "Jazzstudio" is characterised by an emphasis on solid knowledge of fundamental technical principals and their use in a variety of music applications including composition and a range of performance genres. This approach enables the music enthusiast to deal effectively with the constantly evolving music repertoire. Practical music making at "Jazzstudio" is considered a core value in the growth of young musicians and the school organises regular concerts and jam sessions to support, stimulate and test their development in the context of "real life" professional situations.

Jazz & Rock Schulen: Freiburg, Germany
Founded in 1984, the Jazz & Rock School is located in Freiburg, Germany.
The school imparts three specific programs of study including:
The Professional Musician programme (something about the programme and accreditation of studies) currently providing training to some 130 students.
The Community programme which provides music instruction to 620 amateur and part time students.
A further education programme providing special training to music teachers. These programmes are supported and delivered by a faculty of 50 teachers and associated staff members.
Active nationally and internationally, Jazz & Rock School is the only partner school of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in German-speaking Europe. The school has also been active in several other international networks in Europe and around the world. This has lead to a succession of exchange programs that are both artistically interesting and career-oriented. The most recent exchange project, a German-French program called "Europop", shall bring French and German musicians together, to perform concerts, workshops and a cross border musical exchange culminating in a festival in 2007.
